22 April 2013 - Myanmar's clothing exports are expected surging in coming months and years, as the European Union will now offer a duty-free access under GSP treatment and after Washington lifted its ban on all Burmese products. 22 November 2012 - US apparel imports from Myanmar could now boom, after Washington Friday announced it will withdraw its ban over Burmese shipments. In addition, European Union will offer a duty-free access to Burmese products under its GSP regime. The country has a very large workforce with extremely low minimum wage. Whatever poor infrastructure, investment may rapidly flood.
7 June 2001 - US senator Tom Harkin, a Democrat from Iowa, introduced a bill on 22 May to ban all US imports from Burma. The text is backed by Jesse Helms, a Republican from North Carolina and the strongest supporter of the US textile industry in the US Congress.
