30 November 2000 - International cotton prices finally rebounded in November after a long period of stagnation. The Cotlook A index reached a season high at 65.65 cents per pound against 61.75 cents at the end of October.
26 October 2000 - Ivory Coast, a major cotton producer, plunged into chaos on Thursday, as heavy clashes were reported between supporters of Laurent Gbagbo, who won presidential elections last Sunday, and supporters of former Prime Minister Alassane Ouattara who was barred from poll by just overthrown military ruler, General Guei.
14 September 2000 - World cotton prices could continue rising in the short term, since the gap between world consumption and production will be larger than previously expected, the US Department of Agriculture announced this week.
25 January 2000 - The cotton season finally began in Ivory Coast after an agreement was settled between the new government, growers and ginners on a fixed price of 175 Francs CFA per kilo for raw cotton.
